Wordy Wednesday

Dearest furriends,
just a little sign of life from our part as we don't want you to worry about us. Both Chilli and me are fine, but mom has been very busy and also occupied with a variety of things and truth is not all of them are positive. One very nice thing was a short trip to Istanbul though! It was interesting what she had to tell about the cats she met there so we decided to show some of them. Most Turkish cats have to fend for themselves and they work very hard to earn their living.
This odd-eyed beauty definitely had it made. She runs one of the many souvenir shops in a touristy part of the city. This tabby on the other hand had to scavenge the dust bins for some scraps of food. But it looked at least reasonably healthy. This guy broke mom's heart. He looked like he didn't cope very well with life on the streets. Mom cracked open a tin of tuna for him which he slowly and very graciously finished until the very last bite. We wonder if his furs are as white as the first cat's under all that dust and dirt. This beautiful floofy ladycat seemed to work with a group of local fishermen. Needless to say that she reminded mom of a certain floofy someone back at home. Look at her expression! And this little talker reminded her of her sweet little Chillimus. Yes, mom loves us very much and learning about those Istanbul cats we realise how very lucky we are. We just wished every cat had a safe place and yummy food.
Many nosekisses and purrs,
Siena & Chilli

Hi Chilli and Siena! We are glad to hear you are both doing fine - we wish your mom wasn't having to deal with any bad stuff though! We hope that the busy calms down and the bad stuff gets better for her!

All those kitties in Turkey were so cute but the fact that they don't have homes just breaks our hearts. We love that your mom helped out the kitty with some tuna - he looks like he has had a very rough life and we know he appreciated that and the feeling that someone cared about him. We wish they could all find good homes (and all the other homeless kitties out there in the world too!) Thank you for sharing them with us!

Oh I remember the cats of Greece and Turkey, asleep in hat boxes, waiting for tibits at restaurants.

Glad you are well and enjoying the feline life of the area.

It's wonderful to see a post from you both! This is the second time our human has woken up with "Cat with a Garden" on her mind and wondered how you all were doing, only to see a post later in the day. :-)

We're sorry your mom is occupied with not-so-positive things, and are sending her (and you both too!) much Light, for whatever it is that she needs at this time.

The Turkish cats were heart-breaking, to be honest. We know that in most of the world kitties aren't as lucky as those of us around the CB. We wish every cat and dog would have a loving and happy forever home, but of course life doesn't work like that. More's the pity.

So we're sending purrs and Light to all of those kitties too, for their Highest Good, and wishing everyone universal blessings and peace.

Awww - what a shame that they have to fend for themselves. So purdy too. That poor white one (well supposedly white) looked so pathetic. We're so happy you are back. Miss your gardenn adventures.

Istanbul is such an exciting place. SS was there some years ago and loved it. Those kitties are all cuties and we are sad that some of them don't have homes. That fluffy ladycat does look like us :). The first kitty certainly has it good - her own kitty chair!

We are very glad to see you and glad you are both OK, but we hope things get better for your mom very soon. We are sending her lots of purrs!

And thanks so much for helping that poor white kitty! It's hard to look at some of those photos. Our mom gets upset when she sees stray cats that are uncared for - it makes it hard for her to travel to certain places.

The Turkish Cats made our Mommy sad, she says "Thank You" to your Mom for feeding the poor dirty grey boy. We are so lucky to be where we are!

Post again soon, if you can. we missed you.

I've been in Istanbul three times now, and after the first visit, I actually brought some big bags of kibble with me, until I found a place in the city where I could buy it.

While it is sad that the cats don't have homes of their own, many people in Istanbul do look out for them. The cats are generally very friendly and used to human contact.

I went to one beautiful mosque and somebody there had put out bowls of water. Several people showed up during my visit to feed and pet the cats. One was a young man who was carrying a plastic bag from a restaurant, half-full with what I thought at first was chicken skin. I thought how nice of him to bring the skin and scrap for the cats.

Nope.

The skin was only on top.

He fed the cats what had to be about four pounds of fresh chicken.

In another spot, near the Archaeology Museum, there's a group of about 40 cats. On my first visit, I sat down to socialize with them, and one big furry guy climbed onto my lap. Another cat sidled up to share my lap, and the one in my lap reached out a lazy paw to push him away. I named that one Big Bully and of course gave the other cat some extra attention.

Five years later, I visit again, and go to the Museum again.

Big Bully is there in the courtyard, ruling over all, except this time, he permits a kitten to get on my lap. Said kitten is the perfect image of Big Bully, so of course I named him Baby Bully!

So overall, the cats are a lot healthier, happier, and friendly than typical street cats. There are definitely the sick and sad ones, and I saw some of those, too, but overall, even in the non-touristy areas, people are kind and put food out for them.

Muslim cultures often treat cats with kindness. One of the stories about Muhammed is that his cat fell asleep on his sleeve, and rather than wake the cat, he cut off the sleeve.

Milo and Alfie Marshall said...

We loved seeing the cats ~ and mom said it always breaks her heart too when she travels and sees cats living wild. We too wish that every cat was a loved cat with a forever home.
