The other day I had my very first fur mat. It was very well hidden in... (whispers)... my 'tock floof. Mom had to work on it in two sessions of ten minutes each. I was not amused!
Not having long hair certainly has it's advantages, but Siena your hair is lovely even though you get mats in it. Glad your Mommy helped you get it out.
Mats are a pain, but your mom must love you lots to work on them like that to keep your furs all beautiful. Maybe you can learn to love your brush someday?
yes, you ARE lucky to have a mom that helps you with butt mats. *giggle* I only has short furs but if I had long, beautiful floof like you do I hope my momma would brush me and keep me beautiful.
Hi Siena. Mats really are a pain! Gingy gets mats in her pantaloons, too...also at her chest and under her arms. The other day, Meowy successfully removed two big mats from Gingy's chest and she didn't even get the bitey. We hope you will come to enjoy the brush as an everyday pleasure so you don't get too many mats.
Siena, you need to get rid of the mats because they can hurt if they get too tight. Ouch! I hate the wire brush so my Mom uses a shedding comb that has long teeth and short teeth. It can break up those mats and get them out. My mats get real tight and Mom needs to work on the ones on my belly. I had some so bad on my behind, that my Mom took me to the vet and they shaved them off. I didn't like that either.
I'm glad you got rid of that mat 'cause I've heard that sometimes they get so bad you have to go the vet to get them shaved off. The lady used to work at a vet's office and she's seen some kitties have to be shaved so that they only had puffs left on their feets and tail and around their head...they looked like little lions for awhile. So, hurray for your mom for helping you keep well-groomed! Elvis Pussley (even tho he has short hair) LOVES to be brushed...first with the needle-looking brush and then with the soft brush. He drools.
It must have been horrible, Sienna! We never get mats here because Tiger and GK have short hair. Tiger hates the brush too, but GK purrs just looking at it!
I know, floof does have it's issues. I had a real bad mat between my front legs on my chest. The PM tried to loosen it up daily but I got mad one day and ripped it right off.
I am a Norwegian Forest Cat born April 2008. I live in an apartment in the city with my mom and my little sisfur Chilli, who came to live with us in November 2008. Feel free to follow our adventures as we grow up. Hearty purrs, Siena

You are lucky, Siena, that you have a nice Mom who will spend the time to make sure you are as beautiful as nature wanted you to be!
Your Friends,

We bet your took floof is feeling nice and smoothe, Siena:) That is a really cool photo of you and the brush.

You must keep yourself well-groomed to have had only one!
If that was your very first, you're doing really well! I know it's hard to get them brushed out, but it really is nice of your mom to do it.

Mats are not fun! Sometimes, my mom has to work on one several times during the evening to get it out. But I am so glad she takes the time to do it.

Oh, sweety, I know those mats are bad news, bur you and mom seem to be able to work them out together!
Oh, we hate those bad old mats! It's a good thing our Mamas check those private areas:)
Oh I hate it when I get a mat but I do love to get furminated so that I don't get many.
I love to do it, am i weird?
xxxx
I think it would be worth the occasional mat to have beautiful furs like you, Siena!

We just saw a cat that had to get shaved to get rid of the mats (we're glad we're short hairs). Maybe you should just appreciate your humans efforts?
The bane of us long haired kitties!!! Don't I know it! The tock is the worst place.
Did we mention the first year I barely shed? Yes tock floof mats do happen, as do neck floof mats. It's not easy being beautiful.
Zar deja los peines así de peludos también! Y eso que no ha llegado la época de cambio de pelaje de la primavera-verano...

I wouldn't recommend that in your...um...er....
"delicate" area.
