Tapir Tuesday

Mom showed us pictures of this most peculiar animal.
Do you know what it is?
It's a Lowland Tapir!
She says she's sorry for him as he seems to be a bit lonely. He's always pacing around restlessly in his enclosure at our local zoo. She saw him enjoying scritches from his keeper once. Someone told her that he's a bit feisty though and has a reputation for biting. He shares his enclosure with two of these Capybara and they had to change them six times until they found a combination that worked out. We really wonder what's next. After showing us birds that can carry off cats mom pointed at these animals saying they are rodents. They are huge! The female has an average weight of 60 kg. We certainly wouldn't go near them.

What really struck us about the Tapir was his voice. Check out this lengthy video of him doing some sort of Kneippism, stopping to smell his own poo floating in the water and then doing his sound when he gets out of it. You'll be amazed.

Our mom loves the Capybara because they remind her of the creatures in one of her childhood-favorite books, "The Wump World."

The capybaras are looking a little bit like the guinea pigs of our beanboys. We tried to catch them but the beanboys never let us do!!!

Aww that Tapir is furry cute, in an odd way!!! We like that little squeek he did! And the Capybara's sure are some B~I~G rodents! Glad THEY don't try to come in our house for the winter! YIKES!

This is Lucy's mama. Just read your post of introducing Chilli to Siena. There were a lot of very helpful comments too. I'm going to look into possibly buying the Feliway diffusers. I've had to do this several times in the past--introducing cats that is--but it's been a very long time for all of us.

Thanks again!

Ha, we know those! They are not hard to find in Brazil, there's even some tapirs discussing laws in our National Congress! The capis (short name for the capybaras) are cute. They're the largest rodents in the world!
God bless you!

Wow, very cool animals! That tapir sure has a wobbly nose, and yes, his voice his very high-pitched. Not what you would expect. I sure hope they clean up his poos real quick so he doesn't have to sniff them anymore.

How interesting. Jane says she speaks Tapir (I don't believe her) and she say's that he is saying:
"Cleanup on aisle #2!"
I think she's pulling my furs.

PS That's a really weird animal.
