Driving mom crazy

This is our ritual when mom lets us outside: We get our collars on and then we rush to the terrace door. Chilli meows loudly all the time as soon as she hears the bell of her collar. The little one climbs on the top of our kitchen cat tree and will actually launch herself off from up there through the open terrace door. I wait on the floor in front of the door to be opened.
Lately mom has been taking her time to open the door, because she thinks it's a bad habit of Chilli to meow that much. She wants to condition her to the notion "waiting patiently equals door gets opened". The problem is that this makes ME unpatient and I start meowing too. I don't know... do you think this is going to work?

Hear Chilli meow in this video and check for my two funny meows towards the end. Mom says I'm probably not really a cat as my meow sounds so strange.

Hmmm! Monty dog often can't wait to get out the back door! He gets worse if you make him wait! I do think you are surely a cat!!

Rats, I can't have the sound turned on as SS is checking your post in the library. Yep, our internet server at home is not functioning again. Can't wait to hear your meows.

It's exciting to get to do things with Mom like go outside. We understand why you two meow. Both meows were verrry cute.

I chirrup loudly to go out - and it usually gets me my own way in da mornings. Persistance pays off.

Ha! I have a really loud, demanding meow so I can make Momma do anything just to get me to shut up!

PS. Don't let your mom make you wait Chili...you need to train HER to get that door open faster!!

Meowing is very efficient if you want the Humans to do something. And Chilli is very good at it - all though maybe it's more polite to wait patiently like you, Siena ;-)

Great chorus, Girls! We thought your miaow was interesting, Siena. Our Sen-Chan used to sound like a crow when he meowed!

Yes, we think it will work. You will get your mom to let you out quicker if you keep meowing! James and I are quiet cats; we don't meow much. However, I've noticed since James is getting older, he talks a lot more, and randomly! I guess that happens to old people, too. ~Fiona

I meow at the door too...but I don't get outside! Actually, I sound more like Siena. Jen says that my meow isn't very mancatly. But please don't tell Chilli that!

Ruby meows persistently to be let in my bedroom, and Pinkie had a tiny delicate voice. i love to hera cats chatting :)
Be careful outdoors and don't go far from your garden.

We don't think it will work. Socks has a funny Meow, it sounds more like a squeak and a very rusty one at that. Scylla & Charybdis have very loud MEOW's and can be heard all over the property. They actually are louder then Fenris. Fenris seldom barks although when he does you know it's him as he is louder then the neighboring dogs who bark all the time. ~S,S,C & F

PS: Thanks for the info on the clematis. We are going to look into getting one next year and planting it along the fence.

Well my opinion is that there are "meow" cats and then there are "non-meow" cats. I happen to be a "non-meow" cat. When I want something, I just sit & stare at the human nearest to me until they FINALLY figure out what I want. Trying to train a "meow" cat to "not-meow" is probably going to be an impossible task, but good luck with that!

I think your meow to go out sure beats Gingers hammering her paws on the door. At least you are cute...(did I just say that?)

How else will mom know you are happy to go out with her! At least you ask!

hummm I guess it is not working well unfortunately.
Mommy was getting crazy about my meows on the weekends ,because Mommy and Marina like to sleep on Saturday'mornings a little bit more than they use to sleep during the week.
But for me to learn about this difference was a little bit complicated.
But I think we are going to have a kind of agreement here and everything will be fine!
I hope so!

Chilli, you have a lovely meow. I liked the meowing in unison too. Tell your Mom that training kitties not to meow to go out is a futile pursuit! I wish I could have seen your launch. Some day I will video GK meowing because he makes this funny muttering; sometimes he opens his mouth to meow and no sound comes out!

We love both of your very cute meows!! We can tell you were both very ready to go out!!

Thanks for putting up the badge for BCCP!!

Chilli sounds a lot like Franklin! Good luck on training her not to meow so much - we haven't had any luck with Franklin. He goes on and on and on for no apparent reason - we think he just likes to talk! And Siena's meow is really cute.

What a great duet! Your voice is very cute, Siena.

Mommy tries the same thing on Samson when he quacks behind her for treats. She doesn't want to reward him for being so persistent and she doesn't want him to think that if he acts that way, she'll give in. Most of the time she gives in because he doesn't give up!

Q used to have a very high pitched meow that always seemed slightly off considering what a masculine cat he was.

9 and Chani have different meows. I can't tell them apart just yet, but from what I can tell Chani mostly squeaks and seems to use different vowel sounds when she meows. 9 is slightly deeper, but still high pitched.

They're both very cute. One day, I shall upload a video of their sounds and we can compare them to Chilli and Siena!

Hahaha, that is cute meow video. Olli thinks indeed that was a right cat meow.He is here and want to know from where it comes.
We also can meow very loud when we want to go out and when we want to eat.

Mit dem Video hast du Olli ziemlich irritiert ;o) Er fragt sich nun, wo die fremden Katzen in unserem Wohnzimmer sind.

It sure takes your mom a long time to learn to open the door quickly! We don't understand how can she resist those sweet meows and make you wait?

Chilli sure is impatient! We don't blame her though, there are so many things waiting to be discovered just beyond the door:)

Puddy often runs over to the sliding door and miaows for me to open it. I go over and stand there and tell her to "sit". She sits, looking up at me, and once she's sat quietly for a few seconds, I give her lots of praise and let her out.

I've found she sits easily and stops miaowing (or scratching at the door).
